Description
Thomas Bavaria Antique 1930s German Porcelain Hand-Painted Plate Yellow, White, and Pink Roses A lovely decorative (cabinet) plate made by Porzellanfabrik Thomas, with a colorful semi-circle hand-painted design of yellow, white, and light and dark pink (or purple) roses. The painting does not seem to be signed, but I think it is very interesting, not the usual meticulous perfect roses one usually sees on these plates, but a much more impressionistic approach to roses with sharp edges and light green leaves that trail into the pink rim. (The colors are not quite as intense or dark as they appear in my photos, especially the yellows and greens.) The coupe plate measures 6-5/8 inches wide across the middle. It is in very good to excellent condition, with no signs of use or wear. There are no chips, cracks, fleabites, or crazing with very intact gold trim and verge. The plate has a green winged shield mark for "Thomas / Bavaria." I believe Sevres is the shape, and that this mark was used 1908 to 1939.
